Important Faculty Announcements for 2020-2021

First of all, we are thrilled that Amanda Butterworth will be the class teacher of the incoming Class One this fall. Ms. Butterworth, an experienced Waldorf class teacher, is excited to be moving back to BC, along with her two daughters who will be joining Classes 3 and 6 next year. For the past two years, Ms. Butterfield has been a class teacher at the Summerfield Waldorf School in Santa Rosa, CA. Prior to that, her BC teaching experience encompassed working at the Vancouver Waldorf School as interim grade four Class Teacher, and at the Sun Haven Waldorf School on the Sunshine Coast, where she taught grades 1 and 2. We are currently organizing a Zoom meeting for parents of the incoming Class 1 and Ms. Butterworth to meet this Friday evening.

Our next announcement involves our Woodwork program.

Ms. Nicole Carere has decided that she will not be returning as the Woodwork teacher following the end of this school year. We are grateful for her years of service at the school and wish her all the best next year with her own educational projects. We will miss her enthusiasm and energy as a teacher and colleague, and we look forward to Nicole continuing as a parent at the school, as well as a teacher-on-call.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Mark Hamilton as our new Woodwork teacher for Classes 5-8. Mr. Hamilton has been a long-time parent at NWS and a lifelong woodworker and cabinet maker, as well as a certified shop teacher. Mr. Hamilton is familiar with our Woodwork program, having subbed for three weeks this winter and taught safety and tool orientation at the school. He comes to us with more than 20 years as a Red Seal Joiner.

We are also delighted to announce that Jasmine Thexton has been hired as our Childcare Centre Lead Educator/Mentor. Jasmine is well known to the Nelson Waldorf school community from her role as Kindergarten assistant in the Early Years program. Jasmine is presently completing her Waldorf Early Years training with the West Coast Institute and brings with her a wonderful skill set to help lead and further strengthen the Early Years program.

We look forward to welcoming Amanda, Mark and Jasmine in their new positions this fall.

Sincerely,

Phil Fertey,                    Diana Finley,
Education Director       Principal
