Health & Safety

We take the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously. In the Covid-19 era, we are closely following the guidelines from the Ministry of Education and are adapting our practices as needed to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment.

Stay Home When Sick

Students and staff should stay at home when sick, or when experiencing symptoms of illness.

When a staff, student or other adult can return to school depends on the type of symptoms they experienced (as indicated in the K-12 Health Check app, when to get tested for COVID-19 , if a COVID-19 test is recommended, and the type of illness they had: e.g. COVID-19 or other illness).

Students and staff who experience symptoms consistent with a previously diagnosed health condition (e.g. seasonal allergies) can continue to attend school when they are experiencing these symptoms as normal. They do not require re-assessment by a health-care provider and should not be required to provide a health-care provider note. If they experience any new or unexplained symptoms, they should seek assessment by a health-care provider.

Students or staff may still attend school if a member of their household develops new symptoms of illness, provided the student/staff has no symptoms themselves. If the household member tests positive for COVID-19, public health will advise the asymptomatic student/staff on self-isolation and when they may return to school.

Please contact the Front Office at 250-352-6919 or by email at info@nwprevious.dreamhosters.com if your child will be late or absent.

Feeling Unwell at School

Children who are experiencing symptoms of illness or are feeling unwell at school, parents will be called to pick up as soon as possible.

Travelling?

Please stay up to date on the current guidelines from the Government of Canada regarding international travel. If you are planning a trip, you may be required to quarantine upon your return. Please inform the Front Office and your class teacher of any international travel plans.

School Visitors

Parents and visitors are welcome at the School, but are asked to complete the following before visiting:

  • Make an appointment
  • Complete the Daily Health Check
  • Sign in and out at the Front Office
  • Wash or sanitize your hands upon entering, and often throughout your visit
  • Wear a mask at all times when indoors
  • Do not visit if you are feeling unwell or are experiencing symptoms

Pick-up and Drop-off

Parents are asked to drop their children off in the lower field (grades 1-8) between 8:15 and 8:25, and K classes meet in their designated field. If your child requires additional support at drop-off, please contact us.

Parents dropping children off at the Child Care Centre can utilize the short-term parking spaces at the end of the parking lot to accompany their children into the Marigolds yard.

Meetings, Field Trips & Public Events

At this time, organized Parent/Teacher meetings, field trips, and events are permitted, according to the current PHO guidelines. We recognize that this can change at any time, and any class trips or meetings that need to be rescheduled will be communicated through your class teacher. Detailed information about the current event guidelines can be found at the BCCDC website.

What if there is an exposure at school?

NWS will follow the advice of Interior Health if a student or staff member is confirmed to have been at school during an infectious period of Covid-19. If an exposure risk is determined to be valid, public health will direct the school to communicate any recommended suggestions to students and staff.
