What is the class size?
At the Nelson Waldorf School, a typical 1-8 classroom has between 17 and 22 students, with maximum capacity at 26. In the Kindergarten program, there are 16 students per classroom, with one teacher and one Teaching Assistant per class.
Can my child transfer to the Nelson Waldorf School?
Yes. Enrolment is open for all classes, and we frequently welcome students into the later grades who have not attended Early Years programming. Often new students benefit from additional tutoring in mathematics, cursive writing, and recorder.
What does NWS enrolment cost?
Tuition for the 2021/2022 school year is $4,500 for BC residents. More detailed information can be found on the Tuition page.
Is it true Waldorf has a no-media policy?
In the Early Years programs, curriculum relies on rich storytelling and creative exploration to deliver lessons. Therefore it is important that students are able to exercise their imagination and creative thinking to fully experience the curriculum. Waldorf educators believe that early exposure to media can be detrimental to a child’s ability to explore their own imagination and maintain a sense of wonder for their surroundings.
We also understand that in the age of easy access, virtual connections with far-away family, and the realities of working and work-from-home parents, that to completely disallow all media is unrealistic. We ask instead that parents enter into a good faith agreement that screen time is limited.
In Middle School, responsible media use is integrated into the curriculum.
Are Waldorf Schools religious?
The Nelson Waldorf School, and Waldorf education in general, is not affiliated with any particular church or religion. Rather, there is a belief that there is a spiritual dimension to life, which is explored through world religions and cultures, a reverence for the natural world, and through festivals and celebrations.
