Class Teacher Job Description:

Class teachers have a passion for Waldorf education and for inspiring a love of learning in children and youth. Key qualities are strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.  With the responsibility of carrying a class of up to 24 students, the successful candidate(s) will have excellent class management and organizational skills.

Within kindergarten – grade 8 school teaching, responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • lesson planning & classroom preparation
  • teaching main lesson
  • teaching track classes
  • report writing
  • attending faculty meetings
  • leading class parent meetings

Terms of Employment: Permanent, full-time; base salary with increments and some benefits

Education and Skill Requirements:

  • BC Teacher Certification
  • 5 years or more of Waldorf Class Teaching is preferred
  • Waldorf Training Certificate
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication skills

Established in 1982, the Nelson Waldorf School offers school programs from Parent and Tot through to Grade 8. Waldorf education has been growing steadily in British Columbia, and the Nelson Waldorf School is one of several Waldorf schools in the province. This provides many opportunities for collaborative working with the other B.C. Waldorf schools.   

Nelson is a thriving little city located in the Selkirk Mountains on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake in the Southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada. Known as “The Queen City”, and acknowledged for its impressive collection of restored heritage buildings and its strong artistic and cultural life, the surrounding area offers a magnificent four seasons outdoor playground.
