The Nelson Waldorf School is recruiting for the role of Business Development Director. The Business Development Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of both new and current business and financial practices that support the strategic vision of the organization while fostering and maintaining best practices in the current business and financial administrative systems.

As Business Development Director, the responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Developing and assessing feasibility of new business initiatives aligned with the NWS strategic plan and vision
  • Financial strategizing and scenario planning
  • Assessing and ensuring risk, liability, and insurance oversight and compliance
  • Policy development and administration
  • 3 year budget development, implementation, and administration and oversight of annual budget
  • Year-end audit administration
  • Coordination of the Finance Committee
  • Accounting and financial system management
  • Business/financial reporting and compliance with external agencies
  • Procurement system development and administration
  • Grant writing and management of procured funds
  • Assessing and implementing business and nancial systems that support current and future best practices
  • Assisting the Head of School with operational administrative duties

Education and Skill Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree – accounting/finance preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience in business development, and securing funding opportunities (preferably in the not-for-profit sector);
  • Knowledge of and experience using Quickbooks Desktop (payroll module), Quickbooks Online, Automated Accounts Receivable and Payable Software, G-Suite, and Microsoft Office Software;
  • Proficiency in digital communication and collaboration IT Management skills (hardware and software) are considered an asset

Kindergarten Teacher

The Nelson Waldorf School is recruiting for the role of Kindergarten teacher. The teacher is responsible for the delivery of Waldorf education in a manner that is aligned with Waldorf pedagogical practices, grade-specific Scope and Sequence expectations, and the requirements of the BC Ministry of Education, as set forth in the BC curriculum and by the province’s five-stage approach to in-class instruction.

Within Kindergarten teaching, the responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Create and maintain a grade-appropriate, aesthetic and orderly classroom.
  • Prepare, teach and assess all learning blocks, and work proactively to support students through the request for development assessments, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a safe, harmonious social environment for the students in alignment with the school’s Code of Compassion, Social Inclusion approach, Student Discipline policy and Dress Code policy.
  • Document student progress in accordance with BC Ministry and Waldorf standards, and communicate regularly with parents, including parent/teacher conferences and end of year reports.
  • Actively participate in the life of the school and broader school community, including committees, festivals, concerts, performances and other after-school activities, as assigned.
  • Work in year-round outdoor weather for extended periods of time.
  • Operate a computer for inputting year overviews, term descriptions, student reports and conducting regular correspondence.
  • Supervise Kindergarten assistants and KA substitutes
  • Attend faculty meetings and Early Years meetings

Requirements: 

  • BC Teachers Certificate required
  • Waldorf teaching certification required
  • 2+ years Early Years teaching preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Employment Opportunity: Kindergarten Assistant Substitute

NWS is seeking Substitute Kindergarten Assistants to replace the regular Kindergarten Assistant when absent. This position is on an “On Call” basis, where the substitute KA is needed sometimes on very short notice. Duties are described as follows:

The Substitute Kindergarten Assistant supports the lead teacher in all aspects of the Kindergarten Program. These include:

Employment Opportunity: French Teacher

Grade School French Teacher

The Nelson Waldorf School has an immediate opening for a part-time teacher for our Grade 4-8 French program. Classes are 45 minute sessions and run two-three times per week per grade. The Candidate should have French subject teaching experience, have studied university level French, and have permission to teach in Canada, ideally with a BC teaching certificate. The Candidate should also be experienced with and/or interested in Waldorf Education.

Terms of employment:  Permanent, part-time

The Education Director plays a pivotal role in the administration team, and is responsible for representing the pedagogical realm when making decisions and providing input. • Bringing a whole-school perspective, bridging administrative and pedagogical insights, to all discussions

• Teacher support including professional development and training, faculty evaluation, curriculum development, and student progress review

• Supports mediation in situations where parent / teacher communication needs pedagogical support to reach understanding and resolution as directed by Head of School

• Oversees remedial education needs, including IEPs for all special needs students

• Oversees the three streams of student support (inclusion, discipline, care)
