Business Director

Overview: The Business Director is responsible for the operational, organizational and financial management of the Nelson Waldorf School.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure legal compliance, accreditation, insurance and safety regulations according to legislation
    • Understand and enact the society act and other governing legislation
    • Communicate with government, legislative and outside authorities
    • Develop and manage policy
  • Financial Management
      • Prepare, present and manage yearly budget
      • Work with accountant and bookkeeper
      • Provide financial reports as required
      • Administer accounts receivable/payable
      • Administer payroll for salaried, hourly, contracted employees
      • Prepare and complete employee contracts including compensation and benefits
      • Process and track tuitions & fees
      • Familiarity with Quickbooks Online and ideally technically savvy to leverage Intuits App marketplace
      • Specifically, we are looking at Wagepoint (for Payroll), Plooto (for bill payments) and Receipt Bank for reimbursable expenses
  • Buildings and Grounds Management
    • Oversee general maintenance
    • Member of WCB Health and Safety Committee
    • Manage Security System
    • Communicate with Janitorial/Caretaker contractor
    • Oversee plans for maintenance &janitorial work during school breaks
    • Oversee facility use and summer rentals
  • Staff (non-teaching) Supervision
    • Supervise front office secretary and maintenance worker
    • Supervise contract employees – bookkeeper, caretaker, janitor
    • Hire and supervise employees in collaboration with Administrative Council
  • Office Management
    • Maintain financial, personnel and student files
    • Implement and improve efficiency of office procedures and systems

Governance:

The Business Director is a Member of Administrative Council, participates in collaborative decision-making and is responsible for the implementation of decisions.

The Business Director is responsible to the Board of Trustees, attending Board meetings, providing information to the Board and representing the Board in the Administrative Council.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary administration training in office, technology and management skills or commensurate experience
  • Basic bookkeeping knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of accounting software
  • Experience negotiating and adherence to legislative requirements
  • Experience in planning and forecasting finances and managing budgets
  • Experience in administration and management in a Waldorf School environment

Position: .8 FTE     Job term: 12 month yearly contract            Base Salary:  $34 000**
