Nelson Waldorf School Wiki For Sharing Information

This site is designed to help NWS teachers, staff, and parents be more efficient in sharing information and also our "Manuals" can be improved on by future parents and teachers.

There is a great, short (three and a half minute) video on Wikis in Plain English that gives a brief introduction to Wikis and illustrates how they can be used to organize a group's information.

Getting started

If you just want to look at pages on this Wiki use the navigation menu on the left just like a normal website.

If you want to be able to add and edit content do the following:

  1. "Create an Account" by going to the upper right of your screen and clicking on "Create Account."
  2. Enter a username and password in the fields shown. You'll need to enter an email address if you want to be able to add and edit content.
  3. Once you click "Create account" and you're logged into the Wiki site as a "user," you should click on "my preferences" at the top right. Scroll down the resulting "User Profile" and, as long as you entered an e-mail address when you created your account, under "E-mail" it will say "Your e-mail address is not yet authenticated. No e-mail will be sent for any of the following features." Click on "Confirm your e-mail address."
  4. Check your e-mail program to find an e-mail with subject "NWSWiki e-mail address confirmation" and click on the link it contains to authenticate your e-mail address.
  5. Back on the Wiki, click "Save" and go back to the Main Page (this one) using the Navigation menu on the left.
  6. Click on the following link: User Page for the Wiki Administrator and on the resulting page click on "E-mail this user" in the toolbox at the bottom-left.
  7. In the resulting "Message" box tell the Wiki Administrator that you want to be allowed to add and edit content (e.g., because you're a teacher or parent volunteer at the school). To prevent abuse from unauthorised users, the Wiki Administrator may need to validate that you are who you say you are before enabling you to add or edit content.
  8. Once the Wiki Administrator has enabled you to add or edit content, the next time you log into the Wiki you will see an "edit" tab at the top of every page...to edit a page simply click on this tab and then start typing or editing away...please save your changes/work every minute or so, so that your session does not time out and your changes do not get saved. The "Save page" button is at the bottom of the page (scroll down to see it).

Editing Help

Although it may seem intimidating at first, this Wiki is very easy to use once you've jumped in. The following links contain information on how to edit Wiki pages. When all else fails you can try using basic html coding as it will usually work.
