Maria was born in Coventry, England, the youngest of three children. After leaving high school, she spent a year in Germany working in a Camphill village for adults with disabilities. This was where she first encountered Waldorf Education. After graduating from university, Maria spent another three years in a Camphill village, this time in Botton in North Yorkshire. Botton also has a small Waldorf school, and through conversation with both the teachers and the students there, her interest in Waldorf Education deepened, until in 1985 she moved to Stuttgart, Germany to do her Waldorf teacher training. The following year she emigrated to Canada with her husband and young son. In 1993, the family moved to Nelson so that the children could attend the Nelson Waldorf School. In 2000, Maria joined the Kindergarten faculty at the Nelson Waldorf School where her work allows her to nurture an ongoing interest in the healthy development of the young child.
