Mr. Gonçalves was born in Sobradinho, DF, Brazil, and was raised in a small farm close to the capital city of Brasilia. At the age of 14 he moved with two of his siblings and his mother to Toronto. There, he complete high school and earned a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from York University. In the years that followed, his passion for child education, the arts, and healthy living led him to Waldorf Education. He took up the Waldorf Teacher Training program at the Rudolf Steiner Center in Toronto, and upon completion accepted his first teaching job at the Nelson Waldorf School in 2009. Mr. Gonçalves went on to complete his first full Waldorf cycle in June of 2017 when he graduated his class after having taught them for 8 years. He then took a Sabbatical year with his wife, Myra, and their three young sons traveling and adventuring in his home country of Brazil. He has now returned to the Nelson Waldorf School and is very excited to be starting his second cycle with this year's Grade 1 class.
