Winter Faire

Winter Faire Sign-Post In the darkest part of the year when candles and fairy lights remind us of our Inner Light glowing and sparkling, the Nelson Waldorf School hosts a Winter Faire. This is a wonderful seasonal celebration and fundraiser for the whole school community and the wider Nelson community. The school transforms into a Magical Winter Village with a Bakery, Candle Dipping, a Children Only Store, Cafes, the Silver King Market, Winter Crafts, Puppet Shows, Gnome Crafts, Music by a Central Fire, and the Cookie Kingdom.

Admission: $6/child and $2/adult for all the activities. "The Shoemaker and the Elves" puppet shows are $3/person.

Kinderhouse

Cedar Forest Gnome Celebration

Location: Cedar Forest Kinderhouse (10am-3pm). Visit the Cedar Forest Gnome Celebration. In the Marigold room lots of Gnomes have made wonderful healthy Gnome Snacks for the Gnome Cafe. The Bluebell room has Gnome Crafts. Make a watercolour bird mobile, adorn with beads and ribbon for your tree or window. In the Sunflower room enter a kingdom of cedar, ice and snow to hear the much loved story of the Cookie Kingdom.

Upper Winter Village

Candle Dipping

Location: Upstairs in the Music Room (10am-3pm). Soft lights, quiet music and the smell of beeswax embrace you as you enter the candle dipping room. A silent meditative event that brings forth the inner beauty of all the winter season celebrations. Come and make your own beeswax candle while enjoying this atmosphere of reverence and reflection.

The Bakery

Location: Class 3 (10am-3pm). Experience all the stages of making bread in a wonderful Waldorf Bakery from grinding and mixing to kneading and baking, and then to tasting.

Wool Works

Location: Class 2 (10am-3pm). A wonderful activity for children of all ages. Surrounded by colourful wools and cedar for inspiration, experience making your own wool creations.

Winter Crafts

Location: Class 5 (10am-3pm). Enjoy making your own chestnut crafts and experience creating beauty with natural materials all around you.

Children's Only Store

Location: Class 6 (10am-3pm). The little ones very own shop! "Children Only" may enter this space that is full of beautiful hand made gifts. Class 6 students are there to help them find seasonal gifts for the whole family. All gifts are just a few dollars and money can be exchanged for tokens at the classroom door.

The Frost-bite Cafe

Location: Class 4 (11am-2pm). Feed your body and soul. The Frost Bite Cafe will be serving Hot Chili and Buns this year. There will be music and singing during your meal with Craig Korth and Julie Kerr from 12-1pm and Jaya Ducharme from 1-2pm.

Rudolf's Cafe

Location: Artisan's Market (10am-4pm). With so much happening in the winter village, Rudolf's is a great place to stop for refreshment and plan where to go next. Bagels and cream cheese, Tea, Coffee, Home-made Chai, and a sumptuous variety of sweets.

Fire-side Cafe

Location: Beside the Frost-bite Cafe (11am-2pm). Warm up with a Hot Apple Cider and Popcorn and feast on gourmet "Railway" wieners and hotdogs. Enjoy the Waldorf Choir's seasonal carols from 1:30-2:30.

The Silver King Artisan's Market

Location: The Silver King Hall (10am-4pm). Once again, local artisans will offer their natural wares and special gift items unique to the Waldorf Winter Faire. We have over 30 vendors. This space is bursting with creativity. New this year we have the "Sustainable Solstice Toonie Auction" with handmade, earth friendly, fair trade and soulful gifts to raise funds for the "Lighting the Way to the Future Campaign."

The Shoemaker and the Elves

Location: Eurythmy Room. (Ages 3+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Thank You.) Toadstools are limited so be sure to purchase your tickets at the admissions desk (not at the door) early. Performances times: 10.30am, 12.30pm, and 1.30pm.
