Kindergarten
The Cedar Forest Kindergarten program qualifies for the BC Ministry of
Education Independent School certification for children turning five
years by December 31st (space permitting and upon assessment,
consideration will be given to younger children). The Kindergarten
program is offered Monday through Thursday 8:00am-12:00noon, September
to June. The teachers have met BC Independent School Teacher
certification as trained Waldorf educators and have current Child-Safe
certificates.
The Cedar Forest Kindergarten staff offer an early childhood educational experience based on the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Waldorf education, which emphasizes the "Kingdom of Childhood" through the world of play, fantasy, imagination, rhythm, and beauty. It is through these experiences that all other learning grows. We strive to ensure a program that provides opportunities for emotional, social, creative, cognitive, and physical development. Through predictable daily and weekly rhythms, a sense of responsibility, order, and security blossoms in the child.
Our program also provides outdoor education (nature walks), nurturing
arts and handcrafts, crayoning, watercolour painting, beeswax
modeling, baking, felting, and woodwork. Seasonal verses, songs,
puppet shows, fingerplays, and storytelling told in a weekly rhythm
help to strengthen the child's ability to listen and concentrate,
expand language development, foster memory growth, and create the
foundation for long term literacy. In addition, movement and circle
games also help improve physical coordination and dexterity, and
quietly build capacities for the understanding of mathematical
concepts.
