NWS Fire Drills and Field Evacuation:
NWS has a Procedure and Guidelines for Fire Drills.  These are reviewed every year and we have a minimum of four practice fire drills per year.  The Faculty are currently developing a Field Evacuation Plan.  This would be used in the case of threat or incident outside on the playground (ie wild animal siting).  We will be speaking with the students this week – at this time only Classes Four to Eight will be participating – and practicing at recess.  The plan is basically that a supervisor will blow a whistle and the children will respond - stop playing - and immediately return to the Classroom, where they will sit quietly and await instructions.  The Faculty will be reviewing this procedure and refining our processes.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Foundation Skills Assessment – Information for Parents
The Foundation Skills Assessment is an annual province-wide assessment of British Columbia students' academic skills, and provides a snapshot of how well BC students are learning foundation skills in Reading Comprehension, Writing, and Numeracy.  The assessment is administered annually (Jan. 16 – Mar.15) to Grade 4 and 7 students in public and provincially funded independent schools.  For more information please see www.bced.gov.bc.ca/assessment/fsa or speak with me at the Office.

NWS Evaluation – Parent Input – we want to hear from you!
Our Employee Evaluation is an on-going process for our teachers and staff.  An important element is the parent input.  This year the Faculty have directed the Personnel Committee to create and distribute an ‘evaluation survey’ for parents to complete, with the attempt to cover most of our programs. Surveys will be handed to parents by the Class Teachers at the time of their Parent/Teacher Interviews. We will be offering tea/coffee in the school meeting room -  Parents please leave a few extra minutes to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee following your  interview to complete the survey (5-10 minutes). Your input is valuable and we appreciate your time and effort with this survey.

Class Four Teacher – Tanya Thayer
The Faculty have received and granted a request for Ms. Tanya Thayer to take a leave of absence for four months in our next school year 2012-13.  Ms. Thayer and her family will be journeying to new horizons and experiences.  She will return to her class in January 2013.  Ms. Carron Mulligan has agreed to take up the class teacher responsibilities during September to December.  Ms. Mulligan is currently on sabbatical having graduated her Class 8 this past spring. We wish Ms. Thayer safe journey, and to Ms. Mulligan we welcome her return to NWS.

Nelson Waldorf School Tuition Prepayment Plan - Guidelines:
1.                  Plans are available to all registered families of the NWS.
2.                  Plans are to be arranged with payments by authorized Credit Card withdrawals.
3.                  Plans are to be completed prior to Aug 31st of the new School Term.
4.                  Plan agreements are based on the current financially posted tuitions–should NWS increase tuitions for the year of prepayment – no adjustment will be required.  However, should NWS decrease tuitions for the year of prepayment – adjustments will be made accordingly – with the agreement by both Parent and NWS.
5.                  Plan agreements are based on the current financially posted supply fees –should NWS increase/decrease supply fees for the year of prepayment – adjustments will be made accordingly with parent agreeing to pay the increase/decrease.
Please call me for further information – we encourage all families to consider this option.
